Over the years we have been very lucky to create amazing bespoke pieces for a wide range of industries. So, we were very delighted to add another unique project to the list…
We were approached by the world Famous Beamish museum to help bring their 19th century steam powered fairground ride back to life by recreating their traditional rounding boards. As the ride is very unique and has aged it was starting to look a little worn, which in a very visual museum is a disadvantage.
Due to the unique style not found in the 21st century it is our job to match the original design perfectly whilst bringing in a fresh feel. The ride itself will spend its time outside which is why the damage has been increasingly worse due to the cold Winter. Therefor we are re-creating the boards in long-lasting hard-wearing fibreglass.
The project is already starting to take shape with the moulding step in full swing. We have already taken the silicone mould from some of the more intricate pieces and are beginning to cast them in polyurethane for a perfect casting capturing every little detail. This means we stay as close to the original which is so important for this time specific museum.
We will be re-creating 12 rounding boards over the coming months and it’s a project that we are loving working on and can’t wait to share the finished product with you all. Take a look below at some of the progress pictures so far.
